SPECIAL WEAPONS AND TACTICS (SWAT)
The Spalding County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team is comprised of Deputies and Investigators from nearly all divisions of the agency. They are tasked with responding to high-risk arrest warrants, hostage situations, barricaded suspects, high risk search warrant entry and planning, active shooters, surveillance, crowd control, dignitary protection, lost/missing/endangered persons, high-and low-profile security details, training, and instruction for other officers and agencies.
There are 20 SWAT "Operators" spread throughout all divisions and shifts including Deputies trained in Hostage Negotiations, Crisis Intervention/De-Escalation, K-9 Operations, Police Counter-Snipers, and Less-Lethal Munitions.
On average, law enforcement agencies across the United States only have 3% of their Officers SWAT trained. The Spalding County Sheriff's Office currently has approximately 20% of its Officers SWAT trained. This means that there are SWAT Operators on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year that can respond to situations that need immediate action.
